Author Ray Tye

Ray Tye knows what it's like when family falls apart. Cast out of his home at fourteen with seven dollars and the clothes on his back after his mother's death fractured his family, Ray spent his teenage years learning to survive on his own. What began as abandonment became the foundation for extraordinary resilience.

Putting himself through high school while working multiple jobs, Ray enlisted in the Marines at seventeen, seeking the family and purpose he'd lost. He rose from private to major (a “Mustang” Marine) over twenty years, earning his degree from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Texas State University. After retiring from the Marines in 1999, he built a successful career in consulting, before retiring in 2016 as a senior business executive.

But Ray's real education came through decades of learning to heal fractured relationships. After over twenty years of separation and mixed communications, he reconciled with his father—a process that required time, tremendous courage, and the understanding that some wounds take a lifetime to mend. The reconciliation with his brother came ten years later.

Ray writes Travis Heights for anyone who has felt abandoned, struggled with family dysfunction, or wondered if broken relationships can ever be repaired. His story proves that sometimes the most difficult journeys lead to the most meaningful destinations.

Ray lives in Plano, Texas, with his wife, Sally, three cats named Dinky, Dude, and Monster, and an Anatolian Shepherd named Darcy.
